Uniroyal Tire Failure

Uniroyal, once known as the United States Rubber Company, was founded in 1892 in Naugatuck, Connecticut. Uniroyal was partnered with Goodrich until in May 1990 when they were purchased by Michelin North America – the tire industry’s second largest tire manufacturer. Their product is comparable to and ranks amongst the most popular tire brands, including Bridgestone, Goodyear and Firestone. Uniroyal’s most popular tire is the Tiger Paw, which is typically used on muscle cars.

Today, Uniroyal is worldwide and known for its tire production. Their tires are sold on a large scale in almost every large tire chain in the US. In 2013 Michelin recalled 100,000 tires and continues to issues recalls in 2015.

Disturbing Issues with Uniroyal Tires

Currently, Uniroyal has two voluntary recalls issued affecting approximately 800,000 tires. The minimum number of vehicles this could affect is 200,000. That means millions of lives could be in danger. There have been several tread belt separation lawsuits involving Uniroyal tire failures, including blowouts, as well as with other manufacturers. What’s even more disturbing is the fact that in an attempt to protect their businesses, major tire manufacturers go to great lengths to protect their business and even hire private investigators to go to site of crashes to retrieve pieces of tread and other signs of tire defects.
