Depending on their age and quality of manufacturing, Kumho tires may be susceptible to detreading, tread loss, sudden deflation, belt separations, sidewall failure, and blowouts, all of which can cause serious injury and death if an accident happens. Driving at highway speeds can increase the damages of roof crushes, rollovers, and other wrecks, though these tires can be dangerous no matter how fast or slow a vehicle is traveling.

About Kumho Tires

Kumho tires is the ninth largest tire company in the United States, with its headquarters based in Gwangju, South Korea. However, its North American operations are centralized in Akron. In 2010, it earned the Innovation of the Year Award at the Tire Technology Expo – the same year it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Kumho began by only manufacturing 20 tires a day; today, over a million tires roll out of its factories annually.

Brief History of Kumho Tires

Beginning life in 1960 as Samyang Tire, Kumho started coming into its own five years later when it acquired the KS Mark and began exporting its products to Thailand and other East and South Asian markets. Following the 1974 completion of the Songjung plant, the company relocated its headquarters there. Kumho was able to break into the American market when the Department of Transportation approved its DOT mark in 1988. By 1992, it became the first Korean tire company to pass the FAA’s airplane tire test for use on commercial aircraft.
