Cooper P21570R14 Tire Recall
Make / Models:
COOPER / P21570R14
Recall Number:
97T008000
Summary:
TIRE DESCRIPTION: COOPER TRENDSETTER SE P215/70R14 (SERIAL NO. 3DHYC2J367, MANUFACTURED SEPTEMBER 7 - 13, 1997; MULTI-MILE MATRIX, P215/70R14 (SERIAL NO. 3DHYTMN367, SEPTEMBER 7 - 13, 1997; AND WESTERN AUTO SENTRY PREMIER II A/S P215/70R14 (SERIAL NO. 3DHYUDH367, SEPTEMBER 7 -13, 1997.) THESE TIRES MAY NOT HAVE ADEQUATE RUBBER COVERAGE OF THE BELT EDGE IN THE SHOULDER SLOTS, RESULTING IN A SEPARATION.
Consequence:
THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE TIRE TO SEPARATE. IF THE SEPARATION IS NOT DETECTED, CONTINUED USE COULD CAUSE THE PLY CORDS TO BREAK AND THE TUBELESS LINER TO TEAR LOSING THE INFLATED AIR. LOSS OF AIR COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE TIRES AS WELL AS MOUNT AND BALANCE THE NEW TIRES.
Notes:
OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DECEMBER 3, 1997. NOTE: OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR TIRES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND DO NOT RECEIVE A FREE REPLACEMENT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT COOPER AT 1-800-854-6288. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.

WARNING: Please Read The Following
Potential Tire Failure Lawsuit
If you, or a loved one, have been seriously injured in a wreck or rollover accident caused in part by a tire tread failure or sudden blowout, then you may have legal action against the tire and vehicle manufacturers for your injuries and losses. It is important to KEEP IN YOUR POSSESSION the vehicle involved in the accident, the tire, the tire tread and any pieces of the tire that separated from the tire during the failure. The vehicle, tire, tire tread and all tire pieces are critical evidence in a vehicle crashworthiness or defective tire lawsuit. Do not send the defective tire or the tire pieces to the manufacturer until you have spoken to an attorney or lawyer.
NHTSA and Cooper Tire Information
The Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has the authority to issue vehicle safety standards and to require manufacturers to recall tires that have safety-related defects or do not meet Federal safety standards. Learn more about:
